Hinduism is a very easy-going religion. Unlike some other religions, Hindu parents do not insist on their children attending religious classes and indoctrinating them about the religion. Instead, they tend to let the children discover and experience the religion while they are growing up. They also welcome the questions that the children raise. Also, unlike some other religions, there is no dogma in Hinduism about THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH AND YOU CANNOT DEVIATE FROM IT.
How is it then that Hindu children now seem to have significant gaps in their knowledge about their religion, especially in the West but equally pertinent in the Metro’s of India. This is due to a combination of things – modern living, parents being busy, parents assuming that children will pick up the traditions as they go along or parents not knowing too much about Hinduism themselves. ( See – Need to Codify Hinduism) This website hopes to fill some of these gaps and help them better understand their religion. It also hopes to help them answer some of the questions which they might be asked either by people who are inquisitive or by people who are being derogatory. Beware of the latter type. A lot of them are asking these questions as a ruse to engage the Hindu in a discussion so that they can check if the Hindu is knowledgeable enough and strong enough in their beliefs. This is done with a view to seeing if the Hindu is susceptible to conversion.
